The Disgruntled Chemist

2/21/2007

You need to go read this right now.

Apparently, Wikipedia has a liberal bias. Who knew? Anyway, some dude in New York decided to start an alternative, "fair and balanced" version.

He calls it Conservapedia.

As an example of why you absolutely must go over there right now and hit the "random page" button for hours on end, here is a picture (of this page, in case they change it later):

He meant this, by the way.

Real conservatives (you know, the kind we used to have back in the day) should be absolutely appalled by this nonsense. These are the kinds of people carrying the mantle of conservatism these days. Weep.

UPDATE: Forgot to thank PZ for the link and the entertainment. Thanks, PZ!

UPDATE II: The "law of mass conversation" has been updated, now with more crazy! You should also see the entries on cytolysis ("the rapturing of a cell due to excess internal pressure"), the Equator (reads like an eight-year-old wrote it), Turkey, the song Amazing Grace, and of course patriotism. That last one has been edited by a member of the Pharyngula community, who came back to report that one of the administrators at Conservapedia edited out all her changes except the subtle insult that she put in there. I bet you can figure out what it is.

UPDATE III: I really hope that site is satire, on behalf of all the real conservatives out there who've still got two brain cells to rub together. Unfortunately, the folks running (and editing) the Conservapedia don't seem to. They would be more properly on the fundie religious side of things, but they have chosen the title of "conservative" to give themselves. To be clear, I don't care that they don't know science. Lots of people don't know a thing about science, and that's a failure of our educational system, not of them personally. I picked the page above (and the examples in UPDATE II) because they exemplify the general sloppiness and stupidity of the site. I mean, all their science entries were basically copied from the glossaries of a series of home-schooling textbooks for grade schoolers! Nobody even picked up a basic chemistry textbook for the entry on Molarity, one of the more common terms in chemistry. Again, I really hope it's satire, but I know these people are serious. And these are the people who voted our current President (another priceless Conservapedia entry) into office. That's just sad.
